Youth Exchange Host Family ApplicationFellow Lions, since I last spoke with you about the Youth Camp and Exchange program, much has been happening in the background. Applications have been pouring in from all over the world. Massachusetts is THE place to which students from the countries of Algeria, Austria, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, Tunisia, and Turkey (to name a few) want to come.
Let me re-cap some information about our program. The Youth Camp and Exchange program consists of two parts: a Youth Camp and a Family Stay. Our program runs for 2 weeks: from July 31st to August 15th 2010.
The Youth Camp will take place from July 31 - August 8, 2010. The bucolic campus of Bridgewater State College will serve as the base of operations for our day-trips, and provides us with meeting space, a dining hall, and suite-style dormitory living while our guests are here. The camp is open to males and females, ages 15-18 (as of July 31, 2010). The total number of campers is limited to 20. In one country alone, 690 young people competed for the 2 positions from their country! That's how popular our camp has become!
To make these students dreams a reality, I need your help. We are still in need of host families: families willing to open their homes to a student for one week (from August 8th to August 15th). All our students speak English, so there's no need to know a foreign language. To be a host family, you simply have to provide three meals a day and a place to sleep. The family hosting experience is about showing a student from another country what the life of a typical American family is like. Take them to the grocery store; take them on errands; take them shopping. If you have a teenage-age children living in your home that's a plus, but not a requirement. Host families do not have to be Lions! If you know a family from church, or sports, any other venue, that might be interested in hosting, please have them visit our website. Campers will return to their home country on August 15, 2010.
If you would like to sign-up as a host family, or would like more information regarding the program, please visit our website: http://md33lionscamp.org/.
