New England Lions Council
Most Lions may not be aware that there is an organization of Lions called the New England Lions Council. Membership is open to all Lions in New England. Meetings are held quarterly at different locations, however the September meeting is usually held in Nashua NH on an early Saturday in September. On the following day (Sunday) the New England Lions Council holds a Necrology Service at the Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, NH for all the deceased Lions of New England in the past year. This group also organizes events at the International Convention and the USA-Canada Forum. In addition they run a Melvin Jones Banquet each year - last years was in Quincy, Mass with LCI President Kay K. Fukashima as guest speaker. This years (March 2004) will be in Providence, RI with LCI Past President Frank Moore as guest speaker.

Dear Lions of District 33N,
Itís almost that time of year again for the District 33N Journey for Sight Walkathon. We are celebrating our 12th successful year thanks to the Lions of District 33N, their families, friends, coworkers and local businesses.
Each year we seek sponsors for our T Shirt Ad and ask that you consider supporting the Walkathon by placing an ad for a mere $100.00. Your donation is tax deductible and is contributed 100% to Mass. Lions Eye Research (MLERF) and will added to your clubís overall yearly donation to MLERF.
The walk this year will be on April 25th, at Horn Pond, sight of the new Lions Park. Horn Pond offers many attractions; serene atmosphere, beautiful scenery, wildlife (you will see a lot of Lions on April 25th); paved and wooded jogging and walking trails. The Walkathon committee is thrilled about this new location and we hope to gain 100% club participation this year. It would be great to see the name of each Lions Club from District 33N listed on this yearís T-shirt. Individual ads and business ads are also welcome!
We are also encouraging all clubs to appoint a Walkathon Chair. Please advise me who your clubís Walkathon chair will be and I will send them a supply of brochures for distribution.
The Walkathon committee would like to thank you for your consideration and hopefully you will support this most worthy cause as we walk together to find a cure for preventable blindness.
If your club would like to purchase an ad, please send your donation with an example of your ad to Walkathon Treasurer Lion Louise Wojtkiewicz, 11 Lillian Rd. Acton, Mass. 01720 By Feb 28, 2004.
Yours truly in Lionism,
Lion Deborah McDonald

PEACE POSTER CONTEST
"CREATE A BRIGHTER TOMORROW"
By Edith M. Danforth (781) 933-2661
2003-2004 DISTRICT PEACE POSTER CHAIRMAN
The Peace Poster Contest was created in 1988 to give young people the opportunity to creatively express their feelings for world peace and to share their visions with the world. Approximately 350,000 children, from more than 65 countries participate in the contest annually. Again this year, thousands of young people from around the world will be challenged to express their thoughts and visions of this yearís theme, "Create A Brighter Tomorrow".
Once again, I am asking you to help our program with a small donation to help with the expenses of the Peace Poster Program. Expenses run around $800, but as always, there are unexpected expenses and costs increased.
I want you to know that last yearís peace poster contest was a success because of you. Through your generous donations, we were able to help our youth by rewarding them for their efforts and thus bring honor to their Lions Club, school and community.
Lions working together to help the youth of our community is always a rewarding experience. With your support, we will continue to work to reach our goal for a Bigger and Brighter Future for 2003-2004.
"Thank you for being who you are, and doing what you do. Who you
are is wonderful, what you do is important. Together we will achieve the
extraordinary."
33N Youth Speech Competition News
Chairman Lion Harold Simpson
All clubs should have received a package of materials for this yearís Speech Contest. It was mailed to last yearís Presidents in May. If you, the current President need a package, please contact the 2003-2004 Speech Chair, Harold Simpson.
With the Mid-Winter, District Speech Competition, not occurring until February 21st, you should have enough time to find students interested before the Club Contest deadline of December 23rd, a month later than in recent past years.
All clubs will be sent new Trifolds showing the corrected dates for the 2003-2004 Youth Speech year. Please support our efforts by finding a Lion willing to bring the program to your schools and also through a donation for the 33N You Speech Competition.

I have been appointed as 33N Chair of the Lions Eye Health Program 2003-2007 and Multiple District 33 Chair of the Lions Eye Health Program 2003-2006. Lions Clubs International through LCIF ó Sight first plans to upgrade the LEHP program this year.
Linda Arsenault, President of the Stoneham Lions Club recently became LEHP Club Chair 2003-2004 and joins with me, the Chair of the Salisbury Lions Club, Joan Purdy, President and Chair of the Danvers Club, Norm & Linda Doucette, Co-chairs of the Winchester Club, Dave Berglind, Chair of the Action Club, and Lions Toby & Linda Lynch, Co-Chairs of the Haverhill Club to spread educational, informational about eye diseases such as Glaucoma, Age related Macular Degeneration, Cataracts, and Diabetic Eye Disease in our community.
Last year twenty-six of the fifty-five Lions Clubs in 33N named an LEHP Chair to spread the LEHP information. We would appreciate it if each and every club would appoint a LEHP Chair for 2003-2004. The job is easy. The LEHP Chair leaves information pertaining to eye disease education and awareness at Senior Centers, Public Libraries, City or Town Halls, and other high traffic areas, a simple public announcement in the local newspaper and/or cable to indicate where one may pick up the information and keep the places stocked.
LEHP information is available on LCIFís website for a small charge and is available free from the National Eye Institute and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. I would be glad to assist you. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
The District 33N Eyemobile Inc. election of officers will be held at the Multiple 33 State Convention in May. I have decided to run for the office of President of the District 33N Eyemobile 2004-2006.
I have been actively involved with the District 33N Eyemobile since 1996, attended and continue to assist with club screenings and am currently serving my third year as Board of Director. I have recently been appointed Booking Coordinator.
This is the first year that the officers of the Eyemobile will be elected at the State Convention. I feel I am more than qualified to take on the position as President of the Eyemobile, having served as Co-Chair of the District 33N Walkathon committee 2000-2002, Chairperson 2003-2004, Visual Aids Board of Director 2000 to present, and current clerk of Visual Aids. I have also served as Zone Chair (2 non consecutive terms), Region Chair, District Public Relations Chair, Lazarus Speaker, District Youth Chair, President of the Topsfield Lions Club, and co- presenter at the incoming officerís school for the past three years (President and VPís class).
My goals, if elected, are simple but most important to the success of the District 33N Eyemobile Inc. They are to continue to work with the Board of Directors of District 33N Eyemobile Inc. and the Lions of District 33N to promote and organize a list of trained and qualified Lions in all clubs throughout the District; to ensure that there are more qualified drivers available in each Zone/club throughout the district and to institute a trouble shooting instructional manual for all equipment contained in the vehicle, and lastly, to enhance the visibility of the Lions Organization and the Eyemobile through a well organized public relations program.
I am available to speak to all clubs in District 33N, so please call me at anytime to schedule a visit. The District Eyemobile is the flagship of our District and I am excited about the prospect of serving the Lions of our District as Eyemobile President and I hope your club will support me with a delegate vote in the affirmative at the State Convention in May 2004.
Yours truly in Lionism,
Lion Deborah McDonald

President Jeanne Farrow or any member of the VAF board for tickets.
Dear Lions of District 33N,
For the past two years I have been pleading my case begging for money for the Visual Aids Foundation. Last year you responded by making many generous donations that enabled the VAF to help several people lead more meaningful lives. We didn't have to turn anyone away and that was a wonderful feeling. Almost as good as the feeling we get when we deliver a piece of equipment and see the pleasure and wonder on the face of the recipient and their family.
So I am asking you all once again, please dig deep into your budgets and pledge all you can to the VAF. We have many requests and not many donations to date. Please donate generously so we won't have to turn anyone away. I'm sure you all want to be yes/yes clubs and not no/no clubs. Thank you for all your generosity and support in the past and in the future.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Farrow
President VAF
